Purfleet on the famous River Thames is one of the main terminals of the Port of London.
Embassy were delighted to be awarded the contract to provide access to one of the jetties at Purfleet Docks to have an anti-corrosion coating applied. Belgium based company ACOTEC specialise in the application of environmentally friendly coatings.
At Purfleet, the main part of the jetty runs parallel to the shore. Acotec carried out the corrosion treatment of 60 tubular piles at this terminal of C-RO, in often difficult tidal conditions.
The piles are coated during low tide, and the complicated WEB deck (alternative for scaffolding) was installed by Embassy to enable the drainage pipes to be coated.
Joe Buckfield – Operations Director
“The scaffold had to be hung from the jetty wall above the water, making the job all the more challenging and dangerous. During periods of high tide, a safety boat had to be chartered and deployed. Our operatives wore lifejackets in addition to their safety harnesses.
Despite these additional safety requirements, the job was erected in an impressive 10 days, which massively assisted the client’s tight programme”.
